so… we talked to the owner (alexander ferrar), and he’s quite an eccentric individual! my friends and i walked in pretty late, and when we asked for the dessert menu, he gave a very detailed rundown of the items we could choose from—particularly the desserts he created (not the profiterole). we ended up getting 2 desserts: the pumpkin cheesecake w/ congnac ice cream and caramel w/ apples and an affogato w/ a scoop of tequila, caramelized white chocolate and macadamia ice cream in a coffee cup with red wine reduction, chocolate sauce, and a hot shot of espresso.
back to alex: he has a book displayed at the front of the restaurant of his autobiography titled: the complete (at least thus far) memoirs of a swine, and my squad and i are very intrigued and are considering reading about his life. i really wish we asked him about himself more before leaving the restaurant, but overall, i’d go back!! the combo of our desserts were very autumnal, and i highly recommend asking alex for recs if you’re ever at sobremesa. also, he gave us trash bags to cut as ponchos because it started raining outside—which was a very nice gesture. thanks alex!
