What's Included:
  • Introductory lesson on indigo from plant to dye, including different vat types and the chemical reactions involved
  • A small item for you to dye (and take home) in one of Abigail’s indigo vats (for example a canvas tote or a handwoven napkin depending on availability)
  • An apron and a pair of gloves
  • Yarn and rubber bands for tying designs, beginner shibori-style (resist-dye technique)
  • A small snack
  • A PDF guide to introduce you to the world of indigo, prepared by Abigail
  • Optional add-on: white handwoven garments at a special 30% off workshop price. These cotton huipiles and cardigans take in the natural dye so beautifully!

What to Expect:

The class will be held by Abigail as the instructor and Kakaw staff assisting. This is an in-person outdoor natural indigo dye workshop held at our studio garden in central Antigua. Instruction is primarily in English but can be switched to Spanish upon request. COVID safety protocols are observed and the exact address will be shared upon registering.
