I can’t fully express how this wellness retreat has shifted everything for me. Before I came, I was stuck—I was consumed by my own resentments, grief, sadness, and anger, and completely disconnected from the love I knew was possible but I didn’t know how to reach it.

The experience here is nothing short of amazing. In a safe, nurturing space, I felt love and acceptance—like I was seen, truly seen, for the first time.

I confronted parts of myself I had long ignored, learning to forgive deeply (starting with my own shortcomings which I have many), and rediscovering what it means to love openly and without fear.

The practices, the guidance, and the shared energy with others on similar paths set me on a true healing journey that will continue every day. I made connections that will be forever friendships.

It wasn’t easy letting myself be so vulnerable and facing my own faults, it was very emotional and deeply raw.

But if you are truly wanting to heal and live life and not just exist, it will be raw, hard and emotional, but all that hard is worth it.

The property here is stunning, lots of room to wander, relax and focus on your intentions. The cabins and glamping tents are set up for amazing rest and luxury. The food is some of the best I have experienced. They buy and cook fresh ingredients everyday. The homemade juices are literally the best!

This is a place you go to that everything is taken care of. You get here and the world fades away and you are left here to heal and nourish yourself with the help of the people. From breath work to flower baths to the wonderful ceremonies, to the one on one with the Shaman and Priestess you are surrounded by love, love of the people and love of the land.

I would recommend doing at least 5 days or longer so you get the full experience, to take that time and to fully immerse yourself. The Shaman and Priestess are some of the most amazing souls I have ever met. Their guidance and love show in everything they do. It was absolutely humbling to witness it and to feel it. They are truly there to help you and to guide you to be the best version of yourself.

I have immense gratitude for what they have done for me and I am forever grateful for all the love and support they have shown. This place I will return again to simply keep myself at its best version. After 43 years of trying western ways and not getting the results. In one trip here I healed 43 years. The tools they give you when you return to your everyday life are just as amazing!

🌿 Tonkiri Sanctuary – A Sacred Space of Healing and Love

In the Ashaninka language, "Tonkiri" means hummingbird.
The term is often associated with the teachings of Peruvian shaman Maestro Juan Flores, who teaches that the hummingbird symbolizes the Spirit of God.

My partner Greg and I spent 4 nights and 5 days at Tonkiri Sanctuary, and it was truly life-changing. Ayahuasca 🌙

each ceremony a doorway back to the soul and beyond. They were all deeply guided, heart-opening experiences.

Gonzalo (Roonin) is a gifted facilitator and musician, and his partner Vicky is a lovely soul who radiates warmth and joy. Together they’ve created a sanctuary that feels sacred, safe, and filled with love.

The property itself is breathtaking — five lush acres surrounded by vibrant life. There’s so much space to wander, connect with the land, and soak in the beauty of nature. The variety of flowers and plants brought me so many smiles and moments of quiet joy.

The maloka overlooks majestic Volcán Fuego — you can see and hear it erupt throughout the day, an awe-inspiring reminder of Earth’s power. The grand cottage has its own bathroom with shower. There are also more rustic cabins with a shared bathroom building. Meals are delicious, nourishing, and shared in a beautiful open-air dining space that feels like a peaceful happy home.

The deep insights, the connection, the integration with Gonzalo, and the people we met here are a blessing and will forever remain in our hearts. And sweet Roona the cat adds her own special magic 🐾

If you are looking for an authentic plant medicine experience, I would definitely recommend staying at Tonkiri.

My time there was truly incredible. What made it especially meaningful was that Roonin not only owns the place, but also personally guides the ceremonies. He was always present to check in, answer questions, and make sure everyone felt supported.

The location is breathtaking, nestled in the mountains of Alotenango, with a direct view of the volcano from the maloca/house where the ceremonies take place. I felt safe and cared for throughout my entire stay. The meals and teas were lovingly prepared by the chef, and the accommodation was excellent; I even had my own bathroom.

Roonin is deeply knowledgeable, and the retreat included a Mayan time reading and a Mayan fire ceremony by his partner, which added so much depth to the experience. Also the best yoga class I have had in a long time in the morning!

During the plant medicine ceremonies, he sang songs specifically tailored to each person’s intention, guiding us through the different phases of the night with so much intention and presence.

Overall, it was an amazing and transformative experience. I would highly recommend it to anyone seeking a genuine, grounded, and authentic retreat.

I stayed here for a week in May. It was one of the best decisions I ever made.
The location was absolutely breathtaking with views of the 2 volcanoes , I'd say about 3 nights at least i got to see the volcano erupt at night after ceremony. Roonin and Vicky were amazing , very warm approachable people. Sandra made excellent food for us. It was an amazing experiecne for me. Also found this to be very well priced compared to similar retreats.
Walking into the small town nearby is very nice, people are very friendly and it felt very safe.
The accommodations were basic but all that you needed.
The hot water was hit or miss in the showers , sometimes it took awhile to get hot in the day.
The ceremonies were beautiful and I felt like I was in great hands. I will 100% be coming back to this place.
I would recommend it to anyone.
I recommend to grab some extra food in the town, and bring some guatemalan currency as nowhere in town takes credit card or us cash.
We would fast in the evenings before ceremony so it was nice to have a snack for afterwards while watching the volcano erupt :)
