During my visit to Antigua, I had the pleasure of dining at El Porton, a charming restaurant located on one of the main streets in the heart of the city. I discovered it through online reviews, and it absolutely lived up to the praise.
From the moment you approach the entrance, you’re greeted with the enticing aroma of grilled meats, as the cook prepares them right at the doorway. The staff were incredibly welcoming, adding to the warm and inviting atmosphere.
Inside, the restaurant is brightly lit, creating a pleasant dining environment. While there is no formal air ventilation, the open windows provide sufficient airflow to make your meal comfortable.
The highlight, of course, was the food. I opted for the chorizo lunch special, which I highly recommend. The chorizo was bursting with flavor, perfectly juicy, and tasted incredibly fresh. Adding to the experience, the tortillas were made fresh on-site by a lady you can see working as you walk in—such a delightful and authentic touch!
The affordability was another major plus. My meal, including the lunch special and a beer, came to just 60 Q (40 Q for the lunch and 20 Q for the beer). For the quality and freshness of the food, this was a fantastic deal.
In summary, El Porton offers delicious, authentic food at a great price point in a welcoming and comfortable setting. I will definitely be returning and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Antigua.
