The perfect birding tour! Rolando is an incredible guide, and had everything organized perfectly. We needed to take a boat across the lake at 5:30am for the 6am bird tour and the boat was there early and everything was perfectly planned. We saw 22 different species of birds and most importantly, the rare glorious sighting of the country’s bird, the Quetzales (male and female). The hike itself was a medium strenuous hike and Rolando was so thoughtful and patient waiting for the birds to come and explaining the birds to us. He has this amazing telephoto lens that made seeing the birds up close such a clear view. The only thing to note for the uphill car ride from the Santiago dock to the Tepupal reserve is that it’s a truck, so while one of us could ride in the passenger seat, the others needed to sit in the back of the open truck. They drove safely, but felt worth mentioning so you’re not surprised.” -Lanie Siegel
