Guatemalan molletes are a typical and popular dessert during Christmas and Lent. Molletes are common in many Latin American countries and each country makes them a little different. There are also many different versions of the Guatemalan mollete recipe. This version is a bit easier and the ingredients are easy to find.
For the syrup
1. In a bowl, beat the eggs until stiff, add the flour, and mix well. Dip the buns in the egg mixture until they are completely covered.
2. Fry in hot oil, turning once to cook on both sides. Put the fried bread in a colander and pour hot water over it and let it drain, this is done so that they are not greasy.
3. To make the syrup, bring the water to a boil, and add the sugar, orange zest, allspice, cloves, and cinnamon.
4. Finally, add the raisins and prunes, and put the muffins in the syrup. Serve the muffins with a plum in the center and sprinkle with sugar.
