Maya Papaya

Great location with friendly staff.
I stayed in the private room, it was clean and beds comfortable.
I would definitely recommend when staying in Antigua.
It had a large common area which was quiet and relaxing.

Highly recommend. Nice service super clean rooms. And amazing showers which is really important I feel for any backpackers. The free breakfast was also really good.

Very good location and nice chilled vibes. Breakfast was fantastic. Friendly staff. Rooms were a bit hot we stayed in, they had ceiling fans but still felt very stuffy.

Good hostel. What really made the stay though was the staff. There’s such a warm, informal vibe there and a lot of that comes down to the people working there. They’re genuinely friendly, they chat with everyone, they make you feel like a person and not just a guest checking in and out. They’re also really flexible and think along with you, if you need something arranged or changed last minute they just make it work instead of pointing at a rulebook. You can tell it’s not because it’s part of the job description, they actually seem to enjoy it.

If you’re looking for a place that’s clean, well run, and has real warmth to it, this is it.

One tip for anyone visiting Antigua for the first time: there’s so much more to do than just the Acatenango hike. Look for small local owned businesses, take a cooking class, get to know the local food, language, and customs. It adds a whole other layer to the trip.
